pre-64 model 94 receiver question

Probably a stupid question but I'm no gunsmith.

are the receivers identical on pre-64 model 94's for both short and long cartridges? Specifically .25-20 and .25-35.

Also, is there an online resource where I could find out what the original chambering was from the serial number only?

O.K., two stupid questions.

[are the receivers identical on pre-64 model 94's for both short and long cartridges? Specifically .25-20 and .25-35.]

There were two distinctly different "pre-64" Model 1894/94 receivers, both of which were only chambered for longer "rifle' cartridges, like the .25-25, .30-30, .32-40, .32 Special, & .38-55.
The .25-20 is a short/pistol cartridge, the .25-35 a long/rifle cartridge (.30-30 based).
The Winchester 1894/94 was never chambered for the .25-20 (aka: the.25WCF), only the pistol cartridge length action Winchester Model 1892/92 & possibly the M53 on special order.

No.

Thanks for the info.

Could you elaborate on what the differences are in the two types of receivers?

If it helps the serial # puts DOM at 1917.

Which two ?

Between the 1st & 2nd Model Winchester 1894's or between Winchester Model 1892's & Model 1894's ?

In either event, google can be YOUR friend.
