IDPA - are mag pouches required gear?
Local club is holding their last match of the season. I thought I'd go out and give it a try. But I don't want to purchase any specific gear for a first match.
Can I just stick the extra mags in my pants pockets and be good to compete? |

yes.
you may not hold a loaded magazine while shooting, but you can put them in your pants pocket or vest pocket. it'll slow you down, but it is allowed. |

Somebody will probably loan you a set. I have.
Especially if you ask around first. |

I'm pretty sure you can get a Kydex/plastic double mag pouch for about $20-$30. You should just get one. They come in very handy if you take a training class anyway.

agree. ask others, "do you have a spare mag carrier" or, "could we swap after you shoot each stage?"
if you are shooting a common gun, it is very likely that someone there will have a mag carrier that will fit your mags. at least well enough to last 25 seconds of running around. |

If you are in OR I'll loan you some to shoot with.
Just explain to the Match director you are new and maybe he can point you in the right direction for someone to lone you one. Lots of people have spares in there car/trucks. |
