Ultramax Ammo

Is this stuff safe to shoot? I can never find any 357 sig target ammo. So anyhoo I bought some. Did I screw up? The m&p and storm lake barrels I'll be shooting this stuff thru do have chambers with very good case head support. This is my first experience with reloads. Any feedback pos/neg is appreciated.

The(y) do this for a living, it's not like Joe reloaded it while watching football in the garage while downing a few. You're GTG.

I have been using Ultramax 9mm 125 grain RN Lead in my Sig 229 and M&P Shield for over a year at my indoor range and never had a problem (zero misfires).

Good to hear. Quick web search left me a little worried but that is typical. People with no issues are far less likely to post their opinions than folks that had problems. The brass I've seen so far looks nice.

The Scottsdale Gun Club sells this stuff. Because I can get a hold of it regularly, I have been shooting it regularly, mostly through my P220.

Zero issues.

I bought a whole bunch of it once (9mm) before I started reloading. It was dirty and kind of weak, but it worked -- every round went "bang" and it cycled OK.

I have shot about 250 rounds of .45 230 grain and it all worked okay.

That's funny. I doubt if there are many successful reloaders who use this MO.

The only problem I have with Ultramax is that I can't find it! I bought a can in 40sw from Cabela's last year & it was OK. A little smoky, a little dirty, but I've had worse. Used to be able to find it at DSG, but not since the panic.

Shot 150 rds of Ultramax 115 gr FMJ 9mm over the weekend. It was a bit dirty but I used it in a brand new gun and it cycled everything fine.

I've tried Ultramax a few times. No issues as far as I could recall.

I've been buying Ultramax 200-grain LSWC in .45 ACP for use as a test load when evaluating 1911s for feeding different ammo types, as well as for accuracy with different ammo types and brands. I don't shoot a lot of it, but I usually shoot a few mags of it through each pistol I test. I've never experienced any problems with it (other than the occasional pistol that flat-out won't feed it).

With the current ammo shortage I can't buy it, so it looks like I'm going to have to reload my own LSWC (except I'mm use plated bullets). That's going to require resetting my dies, which I'd be happy not to have to do, so if the Ultramax becomes available (and affordable) again, I'll keep on buying it.
