Winchester 230 Powder??

I have 2 pounds of Winchester 230 powder. It is in metal cans with a cone shaped top. It must have been discontinued years ago as I have never seen it sold in stores. Is it like 231? Does anyone have any info/load data for this powder? Thanks

Got any pics of the can?

If it is really old, it may be the predecessor to 231?

Maybe a typo?

Look for a date on the label or can its self, might be best to give winchester a call?

Thanks dingo, I will try and get some pics up later. As far as a typo, no, I don't think so. The labels are all origional and intact. I have some 231 and the 230 powder looks different, it is darker with larger flakes. I wonder if the 230 was a promotional powder in the 60's or 70's. I will keep looking. Thanks for the reply.

Speer #9 FROM 1974 Has load info. It states it is bing discontinued that year and relpaced with an improved version. Probably 231. The load data between the two does not appear interchangeble.

For 45 acp a 200lswc has 4.1 -4.4 gr I use 5.3 of 231

Actually, I just recently caught an article in one of my old gun rags about this powder... and yes, it was the predecessor of Win 231.

I wish I could help more than that, but there's no way I can. I would estimate that Win 230 hasn't been made since the early 70s or perhaps even earlier.

I have 3+ pounds of a discontinued powder myself, Win 473AA. Powder still good, data is scarce.

Here are some pics of the ww230 powder. Oh, I did find a powder burning rate chart for current and obsolete powders. It lists 230 right next to red dot. At least I have a place to start now. Thanks for the input everyone.
