Need help cleaning a Browning BPS (old)

hey guys i was wondering if anyone had any experience cleaning a browning bps. my grandpa is having clean his up for him but i can't figure out how to get the bolt carrier and pump out of the reciever. Is is similar to the 870 in anyway? thanks for the help

The manual won't answer your questions - it tells you not to take the internal mechanism of the gun apart ( which is nonsense ) if you have any experience with guns. I think they should be fully taken down almost every time you shoot them ( and so should every pump gun, in my opinion ).

There are a lot of books, Gun Digest prints some, etc that tell how to fully take a BPS down.

Take the barrel off / then basically you have to knock the pin out of the side of the receiver, remove the trigger group ( I use a 10 penny nail, with the tip of it ground to fit the pin ) or a set of gunsmith punches if you have them are fine too. Then the bolt, etc will all come out / but pay careful attention to how things fit together as they come out / so you can get it back together. Don't force things back together / be patient and you should be fine. I think its pretty obvious once you get them apart / but holding the extractor bars just right / getting the trigger group back in just right can be a little tricky the first couple of times you take it apart. Just be patient.
