45 ACP brass primer pockets
I was rummaging through some 45ACP range brass that I've cleaned and deprimed, and noticed some had smaller primer pockets than most. The culprits seem to have Federal headstamps, and a few Blazer headstamps. But mostly Federal. However, as shown in photo, a few Federals had the normal sized large primer pocket. Do some of these come with small rifle primers?

Yes, now you will find them with both large and small primers. If you look at the federal large and small you should notice a different font along with a couple of other changes. These days you need to look closely and separate the cases at least by primer size.

Yup. You will find 45acp with both small and large primer pockets. There is nothing wrong with them except that they can sure mess up your pace when you try to shove a large primer into one. Keep them seperated and reload them.

With the powder I use I see a small reduction in bullet speed and the small primer, with everything else being the same. I would never have known there is a difference had I not run both through a cronograph.
