I just purchased a Polish WZ-48 and she needs a friend,,,

I just purchased a Polish WZ-48 and she needs a friend,,,
I want to obtain a centerfire rifle to match up with it.

Meet Krystyna,,,

I have been told that the M44 is the rifle I want,,,
More specifically I have been told to find a Polish M44.

I looked in Gunbroker and found:
  • Polish M44
  • Russian M44
  • Izhevsk M44
  • Romanian M44
  • Hungarian M44
  • Mosin-Nagant M44

So, to keep things neat and tidy,,,
Meaning, I need to satisfy my OCD,,,
I think I'll be looking for a Polish version.

But how do I determine what country it came from?

Is there a specific marking to determine Polish guns?

I'll be going to the Wanenmachers gun show next month,,,
Is there a sure fire way to weed out the other guns?

Or,,,
Are all M44's the same?

Any help you gentlemen can give me will be greatly appreciated,,,
I'll beam you "good gun karma" for your help.

Aarond

Polish M44s are marked with an oval which contains the numeral "11". I have been following them on Gunbroker, and they seem to selling for close to $600.00 (!!) because they tend to be in unissued condition.

From a mechanical point of view, all M44s are made to the same specs as provided by "Mother Russia."

Be prepared to spend a bunch of money if you are lucky enough to find one.

You can do a search yourself on GB of sold items.

Edit: I just looked and saw one offered at $380.00, unissued on GB. Put "Polish m44" in the search box. (Auction # 516249492)

Good luck!

Thanks gentlemen,,,

ouch!

You are correct about them being higher,,,
Several hundred dollars over the other versions.

Krystyna might have to stay an only child.

I did get to make a quick (15 minute) trip to the range,,,
Here's how she did with eight rounds of Federal bulk at 25 yards.

Any looseness of the group,,,
Is probably the indian,,,
Not the arrow.

I'm very happy with her now,,,
I hope to get to the range for an all day trip this weekend.

Of course, you could always get a little sister with a P-64. Can be had for under $300 in often like-new condition.

Don't be putting ideas in my head mapsjanhere,,,

Don't be putting ideas in my head mapsjanhere,,,
I can come up with too many money spending ideas as it is.

BTW: I like your tag line,,,
I'm also developing a fondness for hitting faraway targets with a .22 rifle.

I've been practicing on some spinning rimfire silhouette targets I found at Wal Mart,,,
So far my best rifle for this is my CZ-452 Special Military Trainer,,,
But Krystyna might just be up to the job as well.

I do think a dab of white paint on the front sight might help,,,
Anything to give my tired old eyes some assistance.

White paint is OK, but look at some of the brighter nail polish colors, the ones that don't appear in nature.

Ah, yes, but, being unissued, they are truly a thing of beauty.
