Remington 870P. This was standard issue for me when I was in the USMC and also with the State Dept when I was on embassy duty.

My dad's 12 gauge, pump, Western Field(never heard of that brand) shotgun. Why do I like it. It works and it's been with him(dad) quite awhile.

I have a Montgomery Ward made by Savage/Stevens. It's a solid gun that still works even though it's about eighty years old. Buying store brands is a great way to get good guns for less. |

Benelli M1, remarkably reliable and cleaning it is as easy as putting a patch through the barrel. It's awesome.

I no longer own my once favorite shotgun. Sold it many years ago. It was a 16 ga, pump, Chicago Arms. It had a stright stock and a hammer. Don't know what choke it was chamberd in, but it downed many Pheasants in the 1950's

Favorite shotgun. Well, right now.....my favorite hunting gun is an antique. It's an old Parker SXS field gun, a VH. I treat it gently and hunt with RMC brass hulls loaded with SR7625 and 1 1/8oz shot - a very low pressure load that gives me better than 70% at the 30 yards I use for patterning. Our PA grouse rarely allow a shot longer than that.
Now that I've started in on this Trap shooting business, my favorites may change. I've been using a Weatherby (SKB) Orion field gun, 20 ga., and my scores are getting better. Maybe another gun in the offing fairly soon. Pete

darkgael,
Pete, my friend, I suspect you'll soon be shooting a new trap specific gun and higher scores. |

8 shot Mossberg 500 with the Mossberg Ghost Ring sights for HD, Winchester 00 buck:
This is my turkey gun, Mossberg 500, 20" bbl, X-Factor choke, Winchester 3", 2 oz #4s. I also use this with a 28" barrel for ducks: My upland gun, Franchi Renaissance, very light and the gel recoil pad really works. 12 ga 2 3/4" Winchester #6s: |

I was recently toying with the idea of getting a new gun for the house. Instead, I broke out my old Savage 67L 12 ga. It has a parkerized finish, 6 shots and a 28 in. barrel. I found it, covered in dust, on a Tampa gunstore's shelf about 20 years ago. It has been a fine shooter with buckshot, squirrel shot and it even keeps a foster slug in a 3 in circle at 50 yards. It's a real all rounder. My second choice would be my Winchester Model 12 in 20 gauge that my dad left me.

My favorite is the the one I purchased new in 1993
HK/Benelli M1 Super 90 with pistol grip and ghost ring sights. Off hand head shots on pumpkins sitting 100 yards away is easy with slugs.

Mossberg 500
I would have to vote for the 500 Mossberg 12ga. I own a Saiga 12 but it just feels odd to hunt with. You have to love the price for the performance of the Mossberg.
Happy Shooting

This photo is from an auction site. Years ago, I had an Ithaca SuperSingle like this one in 20 gauge. It was very light, pointed well, hit right where it should, and was fast to re-load. I toppled a lot of S. Dakota pheasants with it in 1970's. But it was traded off and I've missed it ever since. Jack
