Forget about the indoor shooting ranges in Sarasota and head out to Manatee. MUCH better in every regard. I don't know about handgun shooters that are especially skilled (I'm sure there are some) but I do know there are some very serious long-range rifle shooters who call the 1000 yd range home.

Yea, when I belonged to the Florida Shooters Network we'd have some shoots out on the Area 51 range and some of the guys would bring their full auto stuff. You're right about the heat - it can get sticky.

Ken, you don't have a phone book?
The one for Sarasota lists High Noon on Bee Ridge and one near the airport called Take Aim.
There's another one called Bullseye in Palmetto/Ellington, just across the river from Bradenton, near the auditorium.
They can all be found on Where to Shoot on the NSSF web site, too and Google maps.

He didn't appear to be looking for a range itself so much as looking for people to go shooting with.

With that thought in mind Ken, do you belong to the Florida Shooters Network forum?

Pinellas Co.

Come on up to Wyoming Antelope Club. Lots of fans keep us cool enough and the 'skeeters at bay.

Well heck, that's easy to do.
Just go to where there's plenty of folks already shooting - at the range.
It's not at all hard to make friends at the range.
See how easy life can be.

Only places I have shot in that area were Shoot Straight on 301, WAC, and Manatee.

Join a private range and you'll meet people. Manatee Gun and Archery is where I would join. Great range that I shoot at when I lived in Florida. Not many 600 to 1000 yard ranges around. $100/year. I could only wish for a deal like that out here in Texas.
