I reciently bought a S&W model 57, serial # N-367xxx. The only thing I've been able to find is that the N prefix was started in 1969. Can anyone get me closer to the acutal date of manufacture?

Can't help much, Harley. If it is a straight Model 57, it was made before 82, when 57-1 was introduced. The 57-2 was introduced in 88, the 57-3 in 90. The N marking started in 69, as you say, with #333454. Closer than that, I can't get.

Harley & Jim, thanks for looking. Guess It doesn't really matter how old it is, was just curious. I like to know all I can about all my firearms.

If you don't mind a guesstimate, I'd say 1977 or 1978.
Follow-up: I checked the N-frame serial number listing in "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson." Serial numbers N190001 to N430000 were manufactured from 1975 to 1977. So 1977 as the manufacturing date for N367XXX sounds about right. I hope this helps. [This message has been edited by jimmy (edited April 20, 1999).] |
