A charging handle aka the M1/M14/Mini 14 etc is not a forward assist.

It sort of acts like one though if you watch any machine gunner, what does he do when a jam occurs? Yep, re racks the charge handle BACK not forward.

And I have to wonder why that idiot KR came into this? I have rocks in my back yard that are more intelligent.

It is there. How you use it another matter. People routinely bump the charge handle forward on M1 to close the action.

Apart from the M2, the majority of belt feds these days are open bolt. Bringing the bolt back cycles the feed pawls, brings the bolt back into firing position, and HOPEFULLY clears the jam without having to go into remedial action.

I can't say I disagree with the idiot part but I don't understand the rest ?
