16 yr old at 600
Shot an ATC 3-5-600 match this weekend and took bamaboy (16) along for familiarization. They had a "team" side match and we registered in same and shot same rifle F-T/R(mine) at 600. Course of fire, 20 rds, 2 sighters, 20 minutes (?) on the F class target.
The boy nearly outshot me! First time at 600.....188-7X! I was one proud papa. |

Damn fine shooting! Don't you hate it when they outshoot you, though? Oh, darn... Looks like you have to go to the range to do more practice... Shucks...

almost
He ALMOST outshot me. I went 190-3x, so he did out "X" me.
He/we weren't completely unprepared. He'd shot the rifle before at 100 for group. We'd shot all last summer of and on and this spring too with a Savage 93TR set up as an F-T/R rifle for practice on the back yard range. The kid did beat me on an IDPA stage the week before. My excuse, was I had a failure to fire. Truth is, he moved and shot darn well better than I did. Won't be long, he'll be outshooting me regularly, I'm pretty sure. |

perhaps the two of you can have a friendly rivalry, to see who can beat the other? It may be fun for now, and encourage both of you to keep getting better.
Also, by all means that is a good score for him on a familiarization run. Keep us updated as he improves. It may be good to encourage others his age to give it a go when they see him doing well. |
