takedown lever on p229

I have a P229 E2 that I cannot disassemble anymore. The magazine is out, the slide is retracted backwards and locked in place, but the takedown lever only rotates to the 4 o'clock position, and there is no way to rotate it any further.
I am clueless as to what the problem might be. I took the slide off and cleaned it a week ago, put it back together, tried to take it off again, and cannot.
Otherwise the firearm seems ok, everything functions as usual. I don't want to shoot with live ammunition though until this is fixed. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Well, I googled and found a post from someone who had the same problem with P229. Looks like I might have put the spring backwards onto the guiding rod.

Wish I could offer some advice, I run a P226 and the takedown / reassembly is faultless.... the P229 should be, too. Can you move the slide a hair fwd or backward and get the takedown lever into the right position?

chadio,

thanks. I tried moving the slide, but the lever won't move past the 4 o'clock.
The gun has been faultless so far.
