Stock inlet Rem 700-Savage-Browning

I was told by a smith that a McMillan Rem 700 "basic" inlet could also be inlet for a Savage. True? My question is, can a basic inlet rem. 700 stock also be inlet for a Browning A Bolt? The reason for my question is I can get basic inlet rem stocks for about $400 less and don't have to wait the 8+ months for McMillan.
