How much to pay for Lead????

I was at a gun show a few weeks ago and a guy had lead ingots made from wheel weights for $1.50 a lb. Seemed a bit high, but he did spend the time melting them in to nice Lead Corn Muffins, never seen ingots like that before.

He told me that I should melt some other metals in the mix before I tried making .45 acp bullets since WW were soft, but I passed.

What is the going rate for lead???? (Wheel weights / scrap etc.)

I'm just starting to cast so don't have a lot of expirence but from reading some different post on differnt boards the prices seems to vary a lot around the country. I'm in Southern MD and just bought some WW and cast .308 bullets someone had turned in for scrap at a recycler for .25/lb.......and picked up a couple of gallons more from some tire places for free.......some other corporate tire stores wouldn't even sell them. Everybody seems to use linotype to harden soft lead and WW, the easiest source seems to be eBay and it's going for about $1/lb.
