I am in the process of getting an M48 Yugo, and do not want to shoot corrosive ammo. Anyone have a load done up? Since these more or less have been sitting for a while (the rifles), do I need to have the headspace checked out?

O.K.

I think that it has been some time since you posted this, so I ask you the same question. What loads have you worked up for this rifle?

I have found this to be a great target load for those carbines that kick a bit more. These data are out of my Yugo 48k
Enjoy!

Bullet - 185 Remington FMJSP
Powder - 36.0 grns IMR 4064
Primer - CCI
OAL - 2.940
Vavg - 1917

The following is what I use in my Yugo 48A and it shoots very well.

H-414 54 gr.
CCI 250 primers
RP Case
Speer 150 Spitzer SP bullet.

Warning! Use these loads at your own risk. Download 10% and work up to a max load. Do not use loads listed over MAX in a reliable reloading manual.

That said, here are my standard 8x57JS loads:

150gr SP over 56gr Win748: ~ 3080 fps
150gr SP over 53gr Win748: ~ 2700 fps (less recoil, approximating .308)
175gr SP over 55gr Win748: ~ 2700 fps

Remington cases, CCI primers.

I use Hornady spire point (SP) bullets, seated to cannelure. No crimp. These work fine in my two M48A's, and my K98. Velocities are what I have measured with my chrono. Barrel length is stock (20") on all guns.

With the aforementioned reloading caveat:

For my 8mm Mausers, I run:

170gr Speer Semi-Spitzer
Winchester Large Rifle Primer
46.0 grains of IMR4895

This is a European-spec load, exceeding pressures as loaded by American commercial 8mm Mauser manufacturers. Pressures are fine in my 98 Mausers and FN-49. And boy, do they do a nice job on Wisconsin whitetail and Wyoming Elk!
