Anyone used Rainier bullets at high velocities?
I just purchased some 10mm/40 cal 135's fr load testing in my G29. I plan to push them near 1400 fps or so (Bar-Sto barrel) Has anyone had any problems with the Rainier?

If you over crimp them they will key hole out of my g20 with a 6" barrel. Otherwise no real problems. You can tell if you over crimp by pulling a bullet and looking at how much lead is now exposed on the perimeter.

Thanks! I'm using a 4" barrel from the Bar-Sto, but I'll bet they'd do the same thing. I'm using a Hornady crimp and seater die to partially crimp, but a Lee profile crimp for the final stage. I'll make sure to watch that.

DO NOT USE Rainier bullets at 1400 FPS!!!
The makers of Plated bullets have put a CAP on the velocity they are telling us are safe. Do not push Rainier bullets above 1200 fps. I think Berry's bullets are tested at 1300fps. anything over will get you deading...

Cold you provide a reference? I and several others are successfully pushing Berry's bullets much faster than 1200.

I just called Rainier and spoke to the owner and he said don't go over 1400, but up to that is fine.
I will of course be watching for any buildup in the rifling anyway.

Out of my 357 sig I have pushed berry's 100 grn 380 auto bullet to 1563 fps with no problems. It is the fastest I have chrono-ed anything yet that why it sticks in my mind.
Next week I will be out with my 25-06, so a new number to memorize from the chrono.

I tried some Berry's and Rainier plated bullets in my .30 Carbine loads at 1950 fps and couldn't even keep them in the same zip code when I shot them. I suspect they were shedding their jackets.
I loaded some down to about 1200 fps with Blue Dot and still couldn't hit anything, and the action wouldn't cycle. I'm staying with for-real FMJ's from now on. There's really very little difference in pricing.

Oops!
I've been running Rainier plated 158gr .357's out of my Desert Eagle close to 1600fps. No problems yet, but that doesn't mean I won't have one if I'm running them faster than recommended.

Steve Smith.... I was talking about .30 Carbine. At the gun shows here in S Ohio, I'm paying 6.00/100 for Remington 110 gr FMJ's, and $5.50/100 for Berry's/Rainier. Not enough diff to matter, but a world of diff in accuracy.
I don't load .40 (Glock shooter!) but I load 9mm and 45 ACP. There's almost zero price diff between Star 124 FMJ and Berry's. There's about two bucks/100 diff between Star and Berry's .45...that's a little bit of a bite when you buy five hundred at a time.....whatcha gonna do? I'd still rather have real jackets.
