Need advice on best dies for .308
Hubby and I just got a new Savage 10FP, and we're going to start reloading for it. We were wondering if you guys had any recommendations as to dies. We're planning on neck sizing only and will probably use IMI cases. We're wondering whether to get the Redding or the Lee Collet Die Set.
Yesterday, we went to the range and put about 100 rounds of milsurp through our new Savage - we are well-pleased with this rifle. (And BTW, the Savage factory trigger adjusted up very nicely! )

Hard to beat the price on Lee dies. I've been using them for years and am very satisfied. In the unlike event you have problems with them, Lee makes good on them no questions asked (at least in my experience).

Lee collet dies. Nothing else even comes close for the money or getting the job done with ease.

I really like the lee collet dies too. I use them in 6 calibers with nothing but good results.

I use the Lee dies, they are good. The Redding bushing dies are better. You'll still need a FL die, or a Redding body die to bump the shoulder back periodically, about 0.002".
If you go with the Lee Collett, disassemble, clean and polish before use. They often have chips in them. Tom

I use a RCBS X die for my 10FP 308 and seat with a Redding Competition die. After sizing just chamfer and deburr and you're good to go.
By the way it has had over 4000 rounds through it and still shoots 10 shot 5/8" groups. Did that yesterday as a matter of fact. |

A vote for the Redding dies...I'm using a Type-S Bushing and a Competititon Seating die for my VS. Both dies allow me to get consistant, low run out rounds.
Don't know about the Lee dies...I do know that the Redding stuff works...period. Of course, if you want to talk about Wilson's line... Regards, S.

I like the Lee collet dies for my factory rifles.
I also prefer Wilson's seaters. You'll need an arbor press of some sort, but they seat with very little runout.

Update...
Hubby and I wound up getting the Lee Collet die set - we loaded up some .308, went to the range to try 'em out in our Savage, and we're quite pleased.
Thanks, guys, for all the advice!
