Winchester Model 70 Black shadow

i found one local in preety good shape for 456.00 plus tax but the guy i am getting it from is throwing in a free case and ammo
the gun will be for elk mostly

Is it new? What caliber is it? a case of shells? Also this thread would've been fine in "The Art Of The Rifle".

the riffle is used but looks new the box of ammo is 20 rd of 30-06 Springfield Winchester Super-X 150 Grain Power Core Lead Free Bullet 2920 fps 20 Rounds
and sorry i was trying to ask also if this is a good rifle for elk hunting

That is way too much for one of the older pushfeed rifles. They didn't sell for that much new. That rifle sold new for less than $350, around $250-$300 is a fair price.

had an article about elk hunting and rifles. VERY INFORMATIVE.

Basically, the article indicates that good 180 gr bullet are best.

Check to make sure the barrel is NOT rubbing the composite stock as that will give flyers.

I have a 7mmMag one and not happy with first shot on POA, second and third being high & right.

The stock is not readily acceptable for glass-bedding (per three gunsmiths) you may want to get a wood stock and wring the best accuracy out of it.

You said rifle, does this include scope? If so what kind of scope is it? If it is a quality scope it might make the rifle worth what he is asking. 150 grain bullets are great for deer hunting I wouldn't use them for elk.

The Winchester push feed actions are actually very good actions IMO. I built a .375 Ruger on an M70 XTR push feed and am building a .338-06 on a M670 action. They are very reliable and feed and function as well as any other rifle out there.

The Winchester Model 70 Black Shadow is a push-feed action in a plastic stock, so unless it has a good scope on it, $456 is too much for it, probably should be around $350-ish.

I paid $350.00 for mine new in .270 Win with a Simmons scope. I changed the scope over to a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9X40. I got it on the paper,then the next two shots went through the same hole, the third was touching the first two. I can't vouch for yours but mine is a keeper.
