I backordered 500 pieces of Starline 44 Special brass last year, good to see demand may be dropping. Beautiful brass, I've run 50 cases through about six loads and reloads as of now, starting to wonder if I'll ever wear it out.

Purely out of interest, can you make .44 special by trimming .44 magnum, or does this create issues?

There were periods when you could not find 44 Special anywhere. I have had to trim 44 mag cases by hand many times. Back then all we had manual trimmers. I love my trim pro.

Always been a fan of the 44Spl. If not for the writings of Keith and Skeeter. This cart would have gone extinct some time back.
Starline is a premier brass manufacturer, glad to see them reviving some of my favorite carts.

Technically, no, it does not create issues. Simply trim it down and you'll have 44 Special brass.

But I strongly discourage it.

. . . because the headstamp will still read "44 Mag." If you or someone else mistakes it for full-length 44 Mag brass, and then loads it to 44 Mag powder charges, the result will be a dangerously high pressure condition. This may sound a bit obscure, but believe me, much stranger things have happened.

Sweeeet. That should hold you good for a while.

Nice thing about 44 Special (like 38 Special) is if you don't hot rod them, and don't over-crimp; the brass should last for many loadings.

If you're flat broke and have to trim magnum brass down to 44 Special, you can't afford the gas to get to the range. Just get the right brass, it's not expensive, and, if you are like me, I'm the guy that would load my own brass up to magnum specs one fine day and cause a big problem.

I have yet to see a caliber I cannot find brass for.

The Starline is 17 1/2 cents a piece shipped if you buy 1000.

The "free" shipping bites a little harder on a 500 order.Its 25 cents.

I don't have a lot of money,I'm pretty cheap,but I make up for it by being lazy.

I don't think hand crank trimming .44 mag brass back to .44 spl pays enough.

Especially since I have a .44 mag.,and I have to pay 1 pc 44 mag brass plus the effort for 1 pc 44 spl.

I agree with you, trimming cases back is a REAL pain in the keister if you don't have a power trimmer.

I have maybe 300 pieces of .44 Special. I simply buy the occasional bag at the odd gunshow and hope that I don't get 95 pieces in my bag of "100."
