Good cheap .44 Mag?
Hello, this is my first post, I've been looking for an active gun forum and I think I found it! But anyway, I am wondering if anyone knows of a good, reliable, and cheap .44 magnum? Please do tell about personal experiences with good and reliable .44 magnums if you have any! Thanks.

the least expensive would probably be a SA import cowboy revolver.
not my first choice for personal carry. ps i have a n-frame s-w 4" barell stainless in 44mag, and love it...

Seriously? If you want a cheap gun then get one that shoots cheap ammo. A quality .44 magnum sixgun will consume its value in retail ammunition in a handful of trips to the range. .44 magnum ammunition costs about 0.75 to $1.00 a round. You want to spend that type of money on ammo and launch it from a cheap platform? You're asking for a disappointment. If you've got a gun-itch to satisfy, then find yerself a 9mm or .38/.357 revolver. If you really want to shoot .44 magnum and become proficient at doing so... then get a decent quality platform for it. Stay away from Charter and Taurus. Stick with Ruger or S&W for double actions, or Ruger and Freedom Arms for single actions. If you are able to find one... Dan Wesson .44 magnum DA revolvers can be found for the $300-$400 price range if you get very lucky. That is a quality sixgun and a good deal. Aside from that, just accept that a .44 worth owning is an investment. Not a terribly strenuous one... but cutting corners will leave you less than satisfied. |

"Good" and "cheap" seldom end up in the same sentence. There are several GOOD 44 mags: Ruger, S@W, Freedom Arms. A good used revolver from any of these manf. will provide you with years of quality service. Don't settle; quality will last you a lifetime.

If this is your goal, my first advice is to get a reloading press and components for 44 Magnum.
Then look around for good deals on used Smiths and Rugers. |

You should be able to pick up used a S&W Model 29 or 629 for under $700 and you would have a great quality 44 magnum.

I have gotten all three of mine in the last year.. all used... got a S&W629 ported stainles for $750, Ruger redhawk stainless for $600, and Desert Eagle nickel for $1,000. I wouldnt hesitate to buy a taurus for I just got a 9mm taurus.

In 1983 when I was looking for a "cheap" 44 Magnum, the Superblack Hawk was the lowest price alternative. 1982 or 1983 was the first year a stainless version was available.
I purchased it at Les's Gunshop in Texarkana. Fun place, good ole boys, hope it is open. Over the years, it still has been a cost effective, and excellent revolver. I would also look at what Taurus has. They sell a close copy of the M629. I had a FIE Hombre, a German made SAA clone, in 44 Magnum. Shooting a full power 44 Magnum in that light thing was like having a bomb go off in your hand. It absolutely hurt. I traded that in, plus boot, for a 45 LC M25-7. Life is much better. |

I bought a Dan Wesson CTG fixed barrel, basically because it was cheap when I found it-$275. I highly recommend one. Cheap or not. Shoots .44 sp like it's a .22 plinker. Super fun. There's a nice .44 in the THR classys right now with 2 holsters for 850 OBO...

Pound for pound, dollar to dollar, the used SBH is one of the best deals going.
When I was behind the counter, I missed a lot of opportunities to pick one up. I later got full-size Vaquero and Bisley Vaquero in .45 Colt, but I have some mad-money stashed for a Super Blackhawk. |

I'd have to agree with Slopemeno. The SuperBlackhawk in any variation is the best bargain out there. Used are easy to find, but most hold value close to new unless it's in poor condition. I'd find a local dealer and ask them what they can order a Super up for.
I've had a lot of .44's and the only one I've kept has been my Super Blackhawk in blue with a 4-5/8" barrel. All the .44 I personally need.

A Taurus Raging Bull .44 Magnum. I only got it a little over a month ago, but in that time I've been to the range ten times and probably put 700 rounds of 180/240gr .44 Mags through it.
I know you need at least 1000 rounds or so through a gun before you can comment on its durability, so take that for what it is. Its a fantastic, soft shooting 44 Mag. Feels very sturdy and built like a tank. Taurus has a bad rep with some of thier guns, especially their autos, but honestly I've never heard ONE complaint (aside from my questionable dealer) with anything built on the Bull frame. You can get one anywhere from $480-700. Very hard to get now adays though because Taurus hit a homerun with the Judge and they're busy cranking those out. Look online or see if anyone on forums in other states have dealers that have it in stock. Mine is 6.5" barrel. Highly recommended, but I can't comment on thier durability quite yet, but so far no problems at all. |

Another vote for the Super Blackhawk. I picked up a very lightly used one with an extra set of grips for $330 a couple of weeks ago.

Don't discount the Ruger Redhawk . . . well balanced double action and about as reliable as you can get. Mine was approx. $500 for one in excellent condition.

Taurus,if for some reason it doesn't go bang, they will fix it,I would consider S&W, ruger 1st,but for less money I would go with the taurus,in my mind those are the only 3 brands of 44 mag that I would buy.

A good, cheap .44 Magnum......
.......hmm.....makes me think of the saying, "Hotter than a ten-dollar pistol.". Now a good .44 magnum at a bargain price makes me think of a used Ruger Super-Blackhawk or Vaquero. My buddy got a nearly new Vaquero .44 magnum this last fall at Fisherman's Marine & Outdoors for $399. Ruger or S&W, but c'mon, guys, would it kill ya to buy an American gun? Buy an American gun while you still can.
