Interesting, but I wouldn’t even know where to find bullets or dies, or even load data.

It's all out there if you look. There's a company that sells kits for casting your own .22 heeled bullets, and also materials for repriming fired cases. Their load data seems to suggest that around 1 grain of pretty much any handgun powder is a starting point. I thought I had their site bookmarked, but I guess I don't. Google ".22 Reloader" and you should find it.
North American Arms sells bullets that work perfectly with those pre-primed cases: https://northamericanarms.com/parts/parts-cb/ Those cases aren't brass, they're steel with a copper or brass wash -- but they work very well. There are two other companies (and again, I thought I had bookmarked them but now I can't find them) that sell dies for loading and crimping .22 LR. Edit to add: https://cuttingedgebullets.com/curx-22lr-die-set

I have a buddy who reloads 22lr - the biggest pain is actually loading them in the magazine/cylinder to ensure the previous primer hit doesn't come under the hammer.

I know 22 ammo can be hard to find and (relatively) expensive when you do, but I can't imagine it's cost effective to start reloading them and then throwing the brass away after one shot.
