Fouling Reduction and Loadings

Black powder guns lose accuracy from fouling. Large amounts of fouling make larger labors in cleaning. Reducing fouling is good to do. During the civil war, Williams Cleaner slugs were sometimes fired; there were tin disks on the slug that scraped fouling from the bore. Many folks on the range seem to come up with their own techniques to reduce fouling. I've seen saw dust, steel cut oats, chicken feed, all manner of things used in muskets to reduce fouling. In my .58 bore, I had some luck with oats in the loading. There are experienced BP folk here who may have found effective techniques to reduce fouling.
