Food plot for turkey

Thinking about making a food plot out on my land... I have never done this before, I was wondering whos ever done this and if you could give me some pointers like when to start, what to plant, ect... I live in Connecticut and would be looking for a spring plot. I am thinking about a smaller plot.

I can tell you small and turkeys don't mix. half a dozen turkeys will tear up a football field in no time down here.

Don't know about planting up there though.
