Gunbelt for a big man?

I finally got my permit to carry concealed (after several phone calls, faxes, and a trip to Nashville. Isn't government wonderful?), and I would like to have a sturdy waistbelt designed for carrying a weapon. The problem is I need a 52"-54" and they seem to be non-existant. The gun is a full size 1911 in a Galco FLETCH High Ride holster so it is pretty hefty, and the biggest gunbelts I can find are around 46". Anyone else having this problem? Or found a solution?

Thanks,
Ben

The "Last Chance" belts at Cabela's run really big. I bought an XL and it was way too long; I had to send it back and get a L. Cabela's has a really good return policy, so you can take a chance for about $20 to $25 and all you have to lose is the return postage.

Must be my twin I never knew I had. I found here at a gun show a man making belts to order for the tidy sum of $25.
You could try here at www.thebeltman.net I am hoping some day to fit into the belt he made for me before my waist grew

+ size carry/concealment rigs...

Here are a few websites/sources for the "chunky monkeys", like me; .

www.Blackhawk.com www.miltsparks.com www.5.11tactical.com www.qmuniforms.com www.kingsizedirect.com www.duluthtrading.com www.texshoemaker.com www.safariland.com

Many savvy gunners like the Beltman website too.

ps; Some LE trainers & CC license class instructors advise buying a belt a size or 2 larger for holsters, mag holders, cuff cases, IWB stuff.

Tighten up...

A few more quick points for a "armed professional" or pistol packer...

Get a lined belt. It will be stronger & support the wt/size of most handguns & related gear(mags, knives, cuffs, cell phone/PDA, etc).
Use at least at 1.5" wide belt for a firearm the size of a Glock 19/23 or SIG P229 or a K frame S&W revolver. It's wide enough to support a weapon for 6/8/10 hrs at a clip.
Some gunbelt makers like Galco, Ken Null & Mitch Rosen make gunleather belts that narrow out front to 1.25" so you'll look like a quiet professional with most coats, vests, jackets.

Finally check the belt loops of the pants or men's slacks. They should be wide enough for a 1.5" belt or be strong enough to support a firearm/gear.
Duluth Trading, Woolrich, 5.11 & Blackhawk all cater to that style in basic colors like black, navy, OD, tan.
Some simple plans and a few smart picks will keep you on track & comfortable too.

A custom gunbelt maker, such as The Beltman, one of my favourites, can make whatever you want or need. Also: Most gunleather craftsmen make belts to order.

Here ya go: Compiled List of Gunleather, Gun Holster and Gunbelt Makers

Good Luck,
Jim

CSMgear.com

I was reading an older gun magazine with an item about the gear website; www.CSMgear.com .
I never purchased any of the products but the writer(an armed professional & former military service member).

They market belts, gear, uniform items.

Small advice(?)

I ordered a Galco 1.25" wide belt since that was what my normal belt was. Unfortunately nothing fits on it because it is double thickness so it is now too thick. Things like my blackberry, my IWB clipable holster, etc. Also normal holsters fit, but getting them on and off is hard.

Take into account the double thickness and order a shorter height belt is my advice.

Beautiful belt, but it takes a bit to break in also.

Belts for big man

Go to tandy leather and you can buy leather to make you own belts. I bought a heavy strap leather that was 70" long and 1 1/2" thick for about $30.

http://www.abetterbeltusa.com I've had one for a year, and it's still like new. I wear a size 46". but their website says they go up to 72".
