Early, not quite as 'sweeping' as implied, IMHO.

The commission said it's not enough to have one or two police officers or armed guards on campus. Florida law adopted after the Feb. 14 shooting allows districts to arm non-teaching staff members such as principals, librarians and custodians — 13 of the 67 districts do, mostly in rural parts of the state.

I personally think 'resource officers' or others(custodians) trained and armed in schools a good idea. I'd also like schools to not be 'gun free' zones..

I'll agree with that!
Working at a commercial door company, there are technologies that schools could use as far as doors are concerned.
Ballistic doors, and glass.
Locks that allow people to get out of a room, but not into.
Centralized electronic locking systems.
A lot more can be done.

My son works as a PLC programmer for a company that builds centralized locking systems for jails/prisons. I can tell you - those aren't cheap. Granted, a prison system would be lots more involved than a school but still expensive.
