I would NOT recommend "The Gun" by C. J. Chivers. Although the author is a Pulitzer Prize winner and the book is fairly well known I thought the book was all over the place talking a LOT about Gatling and Maxim and a lot of stuff not directly related to the AK.

I like Dr. Clinton Ezell's book on the AK (The Story of the AK-47?). There's another good one, but it escapes me right now.
