Star BM9 (almost 1911)

Just received a Star BM9 from J & G Sales. Started reading about these surplus guns (made in Spain) after seeing one in a gun store last weekend.

Has a great reputation and was made from 1972 to 1992. Mine was made in 1977.

Here is a picture of the right side featuring an external extractor.

The grips were offered by J & G for only$29.95. They really dress up an already nice gun (paid a little extra for a select pick). Got two extra magazines coming.

Will try to get to the range in a couple of days and try it out.

Has a great trigger pull (hinged instead of straight back like a regular 1911). Has no grip safety and is very easy to break down. Weighs 34.9 oz. and the magazine holds 8 rounds. Has a 4" barrel and is sort of like a Combat Commander.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you ever get a chance to get a Star model PS in 45 acp , jump on it.
It's even more of a 1911 than the BM . No pesky grip safety , I loved it .
Mine was stolen in 1995 and I still miss it.
The Star model BM and PS have a lot going for them and are well made .

I've owned two Star PDs, and have thought about getting a Star 9mm.
The alloy-framed BKS and BKM have been on my radar, but I also like the Star Super chambered in 9mm Largo.

The BM is a dandy little SA carry gun. I packed one for several years in a horizontal shoulder holster for which it is ideally suited. Easy to shoot, compact, and has a narrow grip profile.

I had an alloy frame BKM for many years. Very nice little gun.

Mine is an excellent pistol. I highly recommend them. The prices I've seen them for lately are so low, for such a high-quality pistol, that it's almost like stealing.

I've heard that the firing pins can be brittle and you shouldn't dry fire them.

I read that about the firing pin also. Been using a snap cap ever since the gun was picked up today.

I love mine now that it works. I had a problem with the plunger in the slide stop. Luckily one of the form members sent me a slide stop (thanks to him once again) and it works amazingly. It is a very nice shooting and accurate gun. The people at the range like shooting it and it makes a great car gun.
