conceal/carry question

does anyone one have any idea.. or guess... how many americans have a conceal/carry permit. I was just wondering... what are the chances of being somewhere where there is someone with a concealed weapon.

I would say my chances of being in a public place and there being someone else, not just me, carrying is pretty good. This is based on the fact that Washington is a Shall Issue state and I go to school east of the mountains (a.k.a. where most of the conservatives live). It definitely depends on your state and location within the state.

ANSWER....

In the U.S. as a whole its a little less than 10% but the state I live in (Tenn.) it's closer to only 2-3%, so if you are in a crowed Wal-Mart chances are there are a couple besides just you.

not much of chance at all, I'd say. In Florida, I believe less than 2% of the Citizens have been issued permits.
As far as I am concerned, I am on my own.

It varies greatly based on location for sure. In my particular county in NY there were literally ZERO concealed carry permit until very recently. The only people that would likely be carrying were from nearby counties so the odds were very low. Even now, last I knew, there were less than 50 carry permits issued in my county.

Somewhere between 2 and 5 in a crowd of 100 people... at least that's what I've read (statistically). Of course that varies by location. In DC, it would be closer to 0.

I have permits for two states and rarely carry. So there's little correlation between permits and carry. I imagine there are those who carry w/o a permit. In this state that's not too difficult to do legally. You need to be "hunting/angling" and have a valid license. Sheriff says if you've got a hunting/angling license and a gun, "you're on a hunt." Pretty much the same law and legal attitude in the adjoining state -- where I have permit too -- only you don't need a hunt/fish license, just be "engaged in outdoor recreation."

Exactly. From my experience, and I talk to a ton of people here in CT from gun store folks to students at training classes, police officers, etc....seems to be that most gun guys with permits don't carry on a regular basis.

It really just depends on where you live.. I know that where I am now (down here in the "South", its really quite common. Even neighboring States will honor my Permit.

It depends on where you live and where you are. If you're in a sporting goods store in Texas, Florida, etc there's a pretty good chance. If you're in a coffee shop somewhere a little north of those places (won't name any names) chances are pretty slim. I like to be in control of my chances, so wherever I go there's 100% chance that there's at least 1 person with a firearm there.

I hope there are a lot. Makes me feel safer whatever the case.

Bauer, are you in Spokane? If so did you see the KXLY story about 2 weeks ago on the jump in CC permits in WA?

Looks like permits here in Eastern WA are on the rise.
