My FNX-45 is a great pistol. Its a "one ragged hole" shooter all day long. People complain they are big. They really aren't big, but they are chubby. Once you get past that, its one of the best polymer 45s. It certainly has the most capacity, 15+1. A friend of mine has the HK. I've shot it next to my FNX-45, and the FN is equal in every way, but was $250 cheaper.

USP 45/Tactical has been mentioned so I'll go with Mark 23.

Favorite polymer .45 would be my buddy's 1970s H&K P9S .45. For current models it would be the FNX.

Since the Smith & Wesson Shield is the only plastic frame 45 I have at the moment I'll pick it. I was able to fire a few rounds through a HK USP some years ago and was very impressed with the accuracy.

Since you said 45 and not 45acp, I will add one not mentioned so far. I really like my Gen 3 Glock 38. For those not familiar the G38 is a Glock 19 size pistol chambered in the slightly shorter 45 GAP cartridge. For all practical purposes the 45GAP and 45acp give the same performance. I am a 45 fan, and I always have been. I have owned four Glock 21's over the years, and the grip has always been too big for me to shoot well. The G38 solved this problem having the same grip size as a G19 which is very shootable.

My favorite by far is the Glock 30 SF or Gen4. This even compared to my USP .45C

The only one I have is M&P .45c. It is completely reliable.
I have had one failure to go into battery when dropping the slide on a full mag. I've shot S&B, Win White, Blazer, Perfecta, Federal, Hornady Critical Duty, Federal Hydra Shock and over a thousand of my handloads. It's more accurate than I am. The trigger isn't the greatest. Other than that no complaints.

I've fired very few poly .45's so, I'm gonna go with what i know, even though I'm sure there are better ones out there. My vote goes to the Ruger p345.

I own three full sized polymer 45's (SIG P320, gen 1 S&W M&P and Beretta PX4). The P320 and PX4 are bone stock whereas the M&P has the Apex duty kit installed plus a set of Truglo TFO sights. Every one of these guns cuts ragged holes out to 25 yards. Each has been stupidly reliable even with tons of steel cased Russian ammo down the pipe. I dont think you could go wrong with any of them.

I’m still a big fan of the USP platform. The HK45 full sized grip doesn’t work well for me but the HK45c grip does so that’s up there as well. I like the P30 grip but that style on the longer .45 doesn’t feel right to me anymore with my medium sized hands.

I got a Glock 36, always wanted a Glock. Nice small'ish pistol that's fairly lite, easy to conceal and shoots "softer" than my 1911.

I am partial to the various Springfield's XD lines.
Have had their XD-45 Compact for many years and more recently carry the single stack XD-S in .45 ACP. |
