30-40 krag rifle twist

i have a ruger #3 rifle, i need to know the twist for it. the book i have says 1-9 1/2 , i think this is the old krag twist. it is probably 1-10 for my ruger. any input would be helpfull. thanks cjs

take a cleaning rod, start it down the barrel, mark it, push it further to see how far it goes before the rod makes 1 revolution. that will tell you the twist. Its faster then looking it up in books or the internet. Also cleans the barrel while you are checking.

My original Krag Carbine was a 1:10 twist.

In my 30-06's, a 1:10 twist will shoot 110 grain through 200 grain bullets accurately.

I think the original ammo for the Krag was a 220 RN.

The 220 rn military bullet used in the Krag and 03 Sprinfield did require a 1 in 10.
