South African made .303 British.
Ton of it was brought in as surplus several years ago. I have a bunch.

I don't know. Never bothered to look.
I do know that it was originally brought in as non-corrosive, but it sure as hell IS corrosive because it rusted the bore of my Ishapore.

Flyguy,
That second picture, I can't read the headstamp, but it appears to be different from the first picture.

Thanks for the replies!
The second picture is different than the first. Both the pieces in the second picture are the same. Here is a better picture.brass 7.9-2.jpg

The brass in your second picture is Turkish Surplus, 8mm Mauser, made in 1947.
TC is the Turkish abbreviation for Republic of Turkey. The symbol between the T and C is the crescent moon and star, which matchs what is on the Turkish flag. This is generally seen to be pretty good ammo, but it is corrosive, and must be treated as such.

The PMP South African made R1M3z (.303 British) is non corrosive, but not considered reloadable.

I have no idea, but I've used a lot of this & cleaned normally with no problems.

When I bought my Ishapore, the bore was shiny bright. Looked as if it had never been shot.
I was assured that these were non-corrosive and shot accordingly. A few weeks later I went to clean it, and... Unhappy Mike.

I don't see how that would be it unless there was some hygroscopic element to either the primer or the powder.
None of my other rifles fired around the same time, and stored in the same conditions, suffered a rusted bore.

Could we be talking about 2 different versions of S/A .303? The earlier stuff with the '60 & '61 "U" headstamps was cordite & corrosive, but I'm specifically referring to the OP's cases which are from the much later R1M3Z lots made in the late 70's & early 80's? That stuff definitely doeasn't strike me as corrosive because I've never had even a hint of trouble.

I didn't get down into the basement last night to check the headstamp on my .303, but as I recall everythign I bought several years ago was the more recently manufactured South African stuff, not the earlier vintage.
I do, however, know for a fact that it is later production nitrocellulose. I pulled a bullet when I got the first batch a couple of years ago.
