Poly .45? I'd have to go with the S&W Shield with the FNX running a very close second.

I sold a HK USP 45c- trigger didn't feel right and couldn't hit what I wanted.

I later sold a S&W M&P 45. I loved the fit/feel in my hand, but I like steel more.

I have a Glock G30sf. I like the feel of the M&P more, but I have conversion barrels for the G30, so I can shoot .45acp, 10mm, .40s&w and .22lr. Hard to argue with the versatility and size.

However, I would sell that before I sell my Ruger P97.

Yes, I know. Ugly and weird recoil impulse, plus it only holds 8 rounds [like a Sig P220, btw].

HOWEVER, I am more accurate with it than I am with all but 2 of my .45acp handguns [both tuned 1911s]. And it has never hinted at a feed issue/ejection/firing issue in thousands of rounds.

It isn't worth much on the market, but I am confident in my ability to save my life.

Oh, and it gave me group sizes 1/2 the size of the HK when I compared them- and that was having not shot it in 7 years, vs having shot the HK for about 600 rounds over the previous year.

So- Polymer .45 favorite? Probably going to be contrary and go with Ruger P97DC.

Tanfoglio Witness P in 45acp. Cost me $249 barely used. Very accurate, low recoil, fits my hand perfectly.

USP 45, HK 45C, Glock 21 Gen4, M&P 45 Compact or mid-size.

Roughly in that order.

An XD45 Compact and a grip-chopped Kahr TP45. 10 or 13 +1 in the XD, 6 or 7+1 in the TP45. I'll give the nod to the XD45C, but the TP45 carries easier.

XD .45 SUBcompact. Kicks less than my Ruger American Compact and also the G 30. Springfield/HS knows how to handle recoil. Handy size too.

MOD 2 .45 all day long! 2nd choice would be Walther PPQ .45. PHENOMENAL trigger! Best straight out of the box trigger of any pistol I've ever had. Shortest reset, too. Accidental double taps are to be expected until you learn the trigger.

Two answers:
hk usp 45 full sized (don't like the feel of the hk45 in hand)
m&p shield 45 compact (grip feels really good for some reason, trigger great)

Glock 21. It's a big pistol, but 13+1 round sof 45acp can be comforting.

My gen 1.0 S&W M&P full size with the Apex duty kit and SIG P320 full are pretty impressive for Tupperware striker fired 45's. They are both superbly accurate and reliable.

S&W M&P 2.0 is my preference, it's what I suggest you seriously consider. If you want a Glock, I like the G30. I also had a couple
HK USP that I liked.

XD Mod 2 .45. I was very surprised when I put one through the paces. Needless to say it followed me home.

A few years ago, I went over to the "dark side". I exchanged my colt defender for a Glock 36.
I also aquired a G21 SF for a night stand gun. With a streamlight, laser, and 14 rds of 230gr hydro shocks, it's a comfort.
Glocks are like being in love with Paula Dean, Not a great looker, but boy can she cook!

Glad to see votes for H&K. Really like my HK 45C. I have shot it well in IDPA and the SA/DA trigger doesn't bother me a bit. The 45C has relatively tame recoil and 8+1 capacity is fine for me.
