Model 10 DOB?

Hi, I have a S&W Model 10 with the serial number V476xxx. Can anyone tell me when it was made?

Much appreciated!

K-22

Hey guys, finally talked my dad into letting loose of one grandpa's guns.

It is a K-22, blued, 6" barrel, wide checkered target hammer, grooved target trigger, and patridge front and adjustable rear target sights. Dad is still looking for the original grips as it now has faux stag grips on it.

Serial number is K 395xx.

Can you tell me what year it was born?

Thanks

Bob

Trying to find out the year my new purchase of a model 29-10 Classic 4" barrel #DNB 97xx was manufactured? I bought it this week from a LGS but it looked liked it was handled many times. I would of passed but it had a great lock up and very tight. And there are none to be found online or anywhere.

Well I thought maybe just ask Smith and Wesson. Sent them an email this morning they just responded with 11/11/20. Great customer service, along with great products, I am hooked for life!

I finally bought a S&W 41, no UAF 6124, guess it’s a fairly recent production?

Well, not too recent. I believe it would be 2000.

Hey there. New member here. Bought my first S&W revolver today at a gun show. It’s a model 17-3, blued, with 6” barrel. With S/N 18K51xx, any idea on its date of manufacture?

Thanks!!

It's not a registered Magnum, built in 56-57. Which makes it a pre model 27, or early model 27.
Also It's a short action, which was introduced as the Model 1950.
Still a nice old Smith and Wesson.

Thanks a lot. Good to know, the auction house described it as a registered magnum. What was its official designation then ? And do you know when they started using the 27 model number ?

The Registered Magnum was built 1935 until 1941 or 1942.
After the war, S&W did limited production of the pre war gun. But they ended the Registion process, and made some improvements, these are called Post War Transitional models.
1950 Smith revamped all of their production to a short action hammer system and called it the .357 Magnum model of 1950, collectors call these Pre Model 27s.
In 1957 they started the Model 27, and went to the 4 screw frame.
Sorry my error, 5 screw ended in 1956.

Is there a “J” prefix with that number? Otherwise 14xxx is way before S&W began 3” barrels (36-1). Take the serial number from the underside of the grip frame.

J14xxx would be 1969.

Got it. I posted the number located under the model number. I was able to locate and find the info once I had the correct number.

Thank you.
