To or not to Refinish Yugo Mauser Stock.

So that is the question. I have a 24/47 that has a pretty rough-hewn stock. I'm looking at it and toying with the idea of a little sanding and some fresh tung oil finish. I will use a period specific finish it i decide to go for it. No stains, no type of poly or varnish. FWIW, it's both a shooter and a wall hanger. What say you?

As a side note, I recently acquired a k31 that will likely hang near the yugo mauser. True to Swiss form, it's stock is beat all to hell. I literally couldn't do much with trying to make it pretty. So that's my big hangup... Making one pretty while the other literally can't be.

No pls, let it be. It's earned those scars and rough edges.

Any sanding will likely make the stock undersized for the metal (those old stocks are very soft). If you really want to clean it up a bit, use some STP to degrease the stock and steam out the dents, then apply some oil finish to the wood. The wood on those old beasts is usually nothing to cheer about, so no need to try to show it off.
