Colt Agent nededs a smith

I have a 1980's Colt Agent that needs to be serviced. The timing is off, the cylinder spins etc. Is there a good smith in Georgia that can work on these? I live in Snellville not far from Stone Mountain Park (East Atlanta).

The 'smiths who understand the Colt V spring actions and who can do good work on them are few and far between these days. They are a dying breed.

While you may find someone close, I would highly recommend you send it off to a shop who knows what they are doing rather than try to get it done locally and end up being dissatisfied.

To my knowledge, there are only a couple of places that are widely recommended to work on the Colt V spring actions: Cylinder & Slide and Pittsburg Handgun Headquarters (whom I think used to take all the outsourced work directly from Colt)

I believe that the Colt factory will still repair these guns.
They'd be my first choice.

Stay away from the factory, to many issues there..

Contact Cyclinder and Slide, first and then contact Mark Solkol{sp}

YOu could try the gunsmith guild, they may point you to some one close

I take issue with that.
The Colt factory is turning out excellent work, and their prices and turn-around are quite good.
NO ONE knows more about it than the Colt plant.

Cylinder & Slide is EXCELLENT, BUT.....prices are HIGH, and due to the volume of work, you'll likely wait for quite some time. (Months)
C&S is more for true custom work, not ordinary repairs.

Other options are:
Pittsburgh Handgun Headquarters
1330 Center Ave.
Pittsburgh, PA 15229
(412) 766-6100

PHH used to be the Colt factories over-flow center for warranty repairs. Turn-around and pricing as about as good as the factory. Quality is VERY high.

While I haven't seen his work, and can't comment on it, Grant Cunningham gets good reviews from customers:

Rather than a vague, "too many issues there," how about telling us what issues would prevent Colt from properly repairing one of their revolvers?

a co-worker of mine is looking to get some work done on his father's Python. Are C&S, PHH, and Colt still the only three places recommended?

What came of the statement that Colt's factory had too many issues?

PHH is out of the gunsmithing business.
Grant Cunningham takes work only on occasion and is apparently not taking any at all now.

If you can stand the wait and a higher price, Cylinder & Slide is very good.

Colt is still the best source for Colt work.

As for the Colt comment, you'll hear complaints about every gunsmith in business on the internet.
If you have any doubts about Colt repairs, come over to the Colt Forum and post a question there. That's where the Colt people hang out, and a number have recent experience with Colt repairs.
