Alliant 2000LR reload question
In Alliant's guide they list list the following reload data:
308 Winchester bullet powder chg. wgt 165gr BTSP Power Pro 2000lr 50.0 gr 2840 velocity 165gr Fusion " 51.0 gr 2910 velocity If you were using a Hornady 165gr SST bullet which one of the loads would you use. Any help would be appreciated. |

The Alliant loads are maximum, so you are going to reduce them somewhat anyway. I would drop down to 45.0 to start my load development. Go from there as long as you're not getting pressure signs.
Bear in mind that some of the newest rifle powders are showing kind of spikey performance figures as you advance the charge weight. Not just Alliant, but Hodgdon as well. Unlike the good ole RL-15 or RL -19 or 4350 or 4831, some of these new fangled powders are kind of persnickety it seems. The latest things like RL-17, Hybrid 100 V, and Superformance are yielding some surprises. They might work good in the right combination. Just be very careful, even more careful than with the older powder formulas. |
