Loading Lighter Bullets
CORRECTION: Just pulled a handful of the bullets and the typical weight is ~180 grs. There are some that were underweight, 175 grs, but most of them are around the 180 mark.
***************************************************************************************************** I have a box of .45 caliber 180 grs LSWC that I would like to use. However, I cannot find a recommended recipe for a .45 ACP/175 grs LSWC/Titegroup. The closest I found are 155 LSWC and 200 LSWC. From what I can decipher, the lighter the bullet the higher the load. 155 LSWC requires 5.7 grs and 200 LSWC requires 4.8 grns. Do I just take the ratio between the two published recipes and apply it to the 180 LSWC? I came up with 5.25 grs and I am keeping a 1.245 OAL. Thanks. No guessing. It's not safe. However, you can use 180 grain cast data. 4.2 to 5.2 for Titegroup. Be very careful about the OAL too.
175 grain cast bullets are .45 Colt bullets. Chances are that even with a 180 grain load, they may not cycle the action. Check the diameter too.

Use load data from the 185gr bullets. This should be safe I would not go anywhere near a max load and stay as close to the middle as you could. But you should be ok using 185gr load data.
I ran into this problem recently with 135gr SMK in 30 cal. There i no data for them. Emailed Sierra and they said to use 155gr load data. Also check the bullet diameter. If it is not right do not shoot them. |
