Found 221 Fireball Load
Hi guys awhile back I was asking if anyone had a great 221 Fireball load.. I didn't get much response for an actual load recipe.. Well after some testing of different combinations I came up with a load that in my gun (Rem. mod. 700 BDL Sporter with laminated stock) that will keep 5 shots in one ragged hole at 100 yds. This gun is just the way it came out of the box with no alterations.
The load I found is: 50gr. Sierra spitzer blitz flat base 15.2gr. IMR 4227 Win. 6 1/2 primer case Remington Trim length 1.400 OAL. 1.840 Try this. This is a mild load, good for the gun and safe to use.. thanks, beaverguy Last edited by beaverguy; August 18, 2006 at 04:24 PM. Reason: forgot something |

Congrats on finding a load that works well for you.
As for just giving pointers and no load info, many people (myself included) don't give load info because all guns react a bit differently, and my loads may not necessarily be the best for your rifle. We try to point you in a safe direction, but it's up to you beyond that point. Anyway, good luck!

221 Fireball Loads
Howdy,
I am playing with a 221 Fireball in CZ Mod 527 American. My best grouping loads : 40 Gr Sierra Blitz King 18.1 gr RL 7 GM205 M 1.845 40 Gr Horn V-max 15.6 gr Lil Gun GM205 M 1.850 50 Gr Sierra Blitz King 19.6 gr H322 GM205M 1.845 50 Gr Horn V-max 17.3 gr IMR 4198 WSR 1.850 50 Gr Nosler 16.0 gr IMR 4198 WSR 1.850 I would be interested to hear how you make out with your Remington, maybe compare notes on these calibers. Neck sizing & dressing the primer holes made a big difference in the 221 Fireball & the 22 Hornet grouping. I use love using these calibers to their limits on ground hogs around the PA /NY farms. I just ordered a new CZ 527 American in 22 Hornet, just to see if all the "out of the box shooter" claims are true. It took a good while & a little bolt shimmin to get my Ruger Mod 77/22h to be a shooter, AND I love it !! Wiskers |

Here's some info that might be of use to you:
http://www.gunsandammomag.com/reloads/0505/ I didn't realize that the .221 Fireball was now being used as a rifle cartridge. I only remember it being used in the Remington XP-100 pistol. |
