What kind of shotgun is this

It's a double barrel 16 Only writing is Carl jauer stralsund. I'll try to post pics if I can figure out how. Prima knuppscher is also on the barrel. As well as flush stahl. Any help is greatly appreciated

Wild guess is prima knuppscher may be the grade of the gun and or engraving. It may be an Icelandic language meaning something like First Treasure Shear (as in cut/engrave).

Still no luck on the manufacturer. I know it's german and that's about it. Any thoughts?

Nice engraving. Hard to tell from the last pic, but the barrels look to be twist or Damascus. IF that is so, then it needs to get a thorough check by a good smith to see if it is safe to shoot.

Good luck with finding a smith to check that shotgun out......

I could not find anyone around here to check out my BP damascus barrel shotgun. I had to do it myself and just work up the load ten grains at a time.

I question whether working the load up really tests the gun out. Just because it doesn't let go with a load for 499 times doesn't mean it isn't gradually weakening and it won't let go on shot #500. To do it properly, I believe these old barrels are magnafluxed, but I may be wrong.

Stralsund is a city in Northeast Germany, on the Baltic Sea. The maker's name is Jauer, not the better-know Sauer. The proof marks are S = Smoothbore, W = Choked, and U = Final and definitive proof. The gauge is 16.

Kruppscher means "by Krupp", Prima flussstahl simply means first class billet (poured or "flowing") steel (no it is not Icelandic). Krupp did not make barrels but provided the barrel blanks. I don't know what, if any, agreement they had with the gun makers to put their name on the completed gun; perhaps it was done only because of the high reputation of Krupp steel.

Sorry, you do NOT "work up" loads, this is NOT metallic. If you have no one close then find someone, maybe via www.doublegunshop.com and send it to him. It would be worth the expense to save a hand or eye

The OP says it reads Knuppshcer. I asked if it didn't read Kruppshcer and he didn't respond.

Thanks for all the help gents. It's not that I would want to shoot it. I just wanted to get some of the history of this fine sxs. It was left to me by my grandpa. Just wanted to see what I had.
