Unknown SxS

I'm trying to get some history on a 12ga SxS w/external hammers. The only id is on the right side of the lockplate " J Reynolds". The gun came for Indiana. Any help would be much appreciated.

Pull the forearm and see if there any proof marks, No proof marks then we know it was made in the US.
