Sig 220 for hunting?

Just curious, is the Sig 220 (.45cal) ever used in handgun hunting?

For what animal and in what state do you want to use it? I'm sure it has been, but it might not be advisable or legal.

Sorry. That was little vague. I mean, technically, as in firepower and that sort of thing, is it ever used for, let's say, deer or pig or (not likely, I know) black bear. Many thanks.

Most common .45 caliber cartridges are not legal in CO for hunting because it doesn't meet the ft-lbs required. A minimum of 500 ft-lbs is required at 50 yards for a caliber to be legal as well as a minimum diameter of .243/6mm.

To answer your question, yes, the .45 ACP has been used as a firearm to hunt with. I really think that the chosen launching pad (sig 220) doesn't make much difference.

That said, there are better cartridges for the job, by far. The little .357 mag is a better hunting cartridge than the .45 ACP IMO.

It'll do the job at bowhunting ranges (like under 25-30 yards) as long as you put a good bullet in the right place (no FMJ's).

It's legal to use in Arizona, but then so is a .25 ACP. All the regulations dictate is "centerfire pistol". I think they expect hunters to use common sense, and if they don't then they likely don't know enough about hunting to pose much threat to the animals.

I have shot two whitetails with a 45acp out of a 5" 1911.

If so, about how far? And what bullet did you use?

One of the deer dropped on the spot and the other one it pretty much looked like it got picked up and body slammed.
