I have its older brother the Marlin 917v, it doesn't have the adjustable trigger otherwise they are about the same. I think it was made when Marlin was Marlin instead of Remington.

Tack driver of a rifle, especially if you live somewhere without a lot of wind.

From 65 yards I produce groups like this reliably shooting prone with a bipod.

Mine has killed a lot of squirrels. Any squirrel I can see inside of 120 yards is in mortal danger. When the .17 HMR 17 grain V-max hits them, they fall out of the tree and are dead before they hit the ground.

I have loved mine though, bought it used and I think someone did not realize what they had.

From 65 yards I like to use 1/4" targets. I like to use symbols on playing cards for targets.

If you don't mind paying 13-15 dollars for 50 rounds of ammo, you will love the rifle.

Alex- thanks for the info. That's a nice group. Unfortunately I live in Kansas where it's windy 400 days outta the year. But I do have a wind blocked area to shoot in.

I am a huge fan of .17 HMR, but I think for where you are situated and the wind you have there, .22 magnum would be a better option. The little 15-20 grain bullets are pushed around by wind.

With a .22 magnum the bullet weights are more in the 30-50 grain range and there will be less drift with the heavier bullet.

Wait until the new 17 WSM comes out in May is my advice. I have a 17 HMR already (love the cartridge), but I'll be adding a WSM to my collection for sure.... An extra thousand feet per second should help it cope with wind a little better.... The ammo is suppose to be comparable in price to 17 HMR too.
