I found this site by spending time on BF, and it has
become my defacto source for firearm related
discussions. It has replaced as my primary destination
another gun, um, forums site that has been down so
long, it is apparently now out for the count. One of my
favorite features there was the Y2K Forum. Can we introduce
one here ?

Staff Input:
Firearms owners are too often associated with the religious right and the conspiracy theory crowd. While we believe there's a place for both points of view, too often, such discussions move sites out of the mainstream. This alienates many Members and lurkers and changes the entire complexion of the Board.
As Y2K discussion inevitably moves toawd UN takeover scenarios and the AntiChrist, we'd prefer that these discussions take place in the General Forum, rather than providing a separate area which encourages such topics.

Member Input:
Kinly weigh in.

Fine ! I'll just take my conspiracy theories
elsewhere ! <insert smiley face here>.
As a newbie, I respect the rights of the owners to
run these forums as you see fit, and long time
members to self govern the content, I just saw it as
a way to collect some good info on all sorts of
generic, as well as Y2K specific, preparedness
planning - heat, power, food, and, yeah, guns.
No problem.
On another note, remember that WE -yes we- who
are not at all ashamed to be called the 'religious right'
are, as a voting block, among the strongest supporters
of 2nd Amendment rights out there. You don't want to go
and alienate some of your political friends with comments
like that. I know politics makes strange bedfellows, but
don't knock your bedfellow if we're all you've got.
No flame intended here, I just felt a little sting there.

RH, i don't believe anyone is trying to alienate anyone. if you've got info along the lines you're talking about, post it on the General Discussions Forum, there's all kind of stuff on it. there was no sting intended by me, or Rich.

RH-
Longhair has explained my sentiments pretty well.

I have no problem with Y2K posts of conspiracy threads. Nor did I mean to give insult to any of our Members. I apologize for the wording of my response.

Ultimately, every website must have a personality. This is dictated by those who maintain the site. Our goal is to bring trainers, students and LEO's together in an atmosphere that fosters the growth of responsible firearms ownership. If we appear a bit heavy handed about contentious subjects (eg: abortion), I take full responsibility.

However, we neither charge dues, nor do we push advertising at our Members. The only payment we exact is the understanding that we have the ultimate right to set TFL's "personality".

Feel free to post to the General Forum any thread which you feel fits. We've not shut down a Y2K or conspiracy thread yet. As for the religious issues, it' not a question of whether we agree or not. It's just that there are far better internet venues for such discussion.

That said, I hope you'll stick around.
Best regards,
Rich Lucibella

If you are interested in extensive self-sufficiency/preparation discussion (Y2K and disaster), Joe (who posts on this board as "NRALife") has a very good forum....lots of good info and tips.

I agree with Rich AND I am part of the religious right AND a bona-fide conspiracy theorist. The only difference is that I'm alright but a lot of those others are really far out and we dont need anybody but guncrazies here!

RH,

You may want to try http://www.michaelhyatt.com . Has some good Y2K info, and their discussion forums use the same format as these.
