AR-15 .223 recipe?

I've been getting some conflicting info from people that I know who reload. If you reload .223 for a AR-15 and especially if you use 55gr Hornady Vmax's with H332 or H335 could you post your recipe? Thanks in advance guys.

335 works great in my SP1 AR, 1-12 with 52-55 grn bullets.

In my white oak 1-7 w/ 77 & 80 grn SMKs it dosnt work worth a hoot, so I use R-15

Steve. Would you recommend using the Hodgdons website with a 55gr speer point or would you go with the Hornady manual b/c they are both very different.

I worked up some loads for Winchester Bulk .223 FMJ BT and H335. I worked up to 25.3 grains with a trim case length of 1.750. I seat the round to the middle of the cannelure. I'm using mixed brass and federal small rifle primers.

While not exact sciecne (I dont' have a chronograph) it shoots to the same point of impact as PMC at 100 yards. Inspection of the spent cases have shown no signs of over pressure. It functions fine in 4 different AR style rifles with no failures of any kind.

I have been using this load all season in 3 gun, and have no complaints.

I have also used H4198 and H322, but the ball powder meters better for me than the extruded powders, so I'm sticking with it. Some say the H322 is more accurate, but I can't tell any difference when I'm running and gunning.

That sounds about the load I've used before but when I looked at my buddies hornady reloading book it showed 23grs as the max and the hodgdons website showed it as a starting load.

Yeah. I have the One Book, One caliber book for .223 and there are a lot of inconsistencies based on the bullet type for any given weight of bullet. I know what you're talking about.

I have used both and it seems that both loads are about 24-25grs with 55 gr bullets.H335 has a loader report and one hell of a flash at night.Just use the load and powder that makes your rifle shoot well.OH i have been useing TAC lately and i am likeing it more and more.Good Luck

Two observation.

1. 53 grain bullet or lighter use H335, with 55 grain bullet or heavier use H4895 about 25 grains.

2. When is doubt use the powder mfg's load data.

3. I don't shoot at night so I don't care if there is a bright flash from the barrel and no one is shooting back at me. Targets are funny that way, they can't get a firearms lic to buy equipment to shoot back.

Oh that's three, well have fun anyway.
