Loads for .300WSM X-Bolt

Has anyone got any recommendations on bullets for reloading a Browning X-bolt, chambered in 300 wsm? I hunt deer & elk. Over the counter shells that have grouped best for me are the Remington Corelokt 150gr. However, my choice is to reload 165gr bullets. I'm currently looking at the Nosler Accubond 165gr, but wondering if anyone has had consistent groups with these? Or others..?

thanks.

Or others.

I my case that's the Hornady interbond 165. To me it's better than the nosler accu-bond in that it retains more weight and expands to a bigger frontal mushroom.

For elk, I would go with the 180 interbond, just to make sure of a pass through.

WW brass, CCI 250, 64.0 of WW 760/H414, 165 Hornady SST. This is maximum, so back off 10% and work up.

My best loads are with the Hornady 165 gr IB, RL-19, and WLRM primers. I get 0.5 MOA groups, and the Interbond is deadly on game. I worked up my loads before RL-17 was available, so that might be the first powder to try, as it was made for the short mags.

Short actions seem to be a bit more rigid (as in more accurate) than the long actions. As far as the loads go, I use 67.0 of H414/WW760 with a Hornady 165 Interlock in the long 300, and the same load in the 300 WSM calls for 2 grains less. 2 FULL GRAINS? What did I save? The long brass is somewhat cheaper than the short ones, but both get pricey.

Loading the .300 WSM...

Hemlock 77--I like 165 grain bullets in .30 cal. rifles. Currently using Nosler Accubonds in that weight with my 300 Whizzie. Using H 380 powder, getting nice accurate results.

Best grouping so far has been < 1 MOA. One ragged hole, 10 shots. My rifle is a Savage; no experience with Brownings.

Actually, have been using Accubonds a lot recently. Took a deer this past season with my 8mm with an Accubond--NEVER seen a deer's engine room more thoroughly wrecked.

I wouldn't hesitate to take my 300 WSM deer or elk hunting with the above noted load.

Don't care to enter the discussion about "regular" vs "short" magnums.

A couple of years ago, my son bought a Browning Titanium Mt Light in 300 WSM.

We had a bunch of 180gr Nos Partitions on hand and tried H4350, RL19, and MagPro without much luck accuracy wise.

Switched over to the 168gr Barnes Tipped Triple Shock. Using RL19, Fed 215 primers and WW brass, we developed a load that runs right at 3,140fps and consistently groups 3 shots under 1 MOA at 200 yds.

In the last two years, my son has used that load with complete satisfaction, taking one bull elk and several mule deer.

No real practical difference in the field (older mags have better paper ballistics -- how much better depends on info source). Only advantage (some may not consider this an advantage) is shorter action length.

For years my son used a Win M70 w/26" barrel in 300 Win Mag which weighed in at 10+ lbs fully equipped with scope, bipod, sling, and ammo (3 in magazine and 9 in butt cuff). He just got tired of carrying that much weight around the Montana high country. If he could have found a 300 Win Mag rifle of similar weight to the Browning Titanium he would have gone that route.
