The only time I would feel outgunned with a SA revolver is should there be a need to reload. (Also, if I was carrying in it for protection against large animals that may attack.) I can shoot my New Vaquero pretty close to the same speed as my other revolvers, if I use a two handed grips and cock it with my support hand thumb. I would still pick a DA for self defense given the choice though.

If I could only have "one" gun, I wouldn't lose any sleep if I only had a Ruger Single action in either .22 (#1 choice of caliber, if restricted to only one), or a Blackhawk in .357 or .41 Mag. Of course, I'm allowed to keep my scattergun too..????
I was also looking at the Ruger Bearcat in .22 or Single Six Convertible (which comes with both a 22 lr and 22 mag cylinder). They are cheaper firearms, and MUCH cheaper to feed, and lighter weight, and smaller. But I can't decide if .22 mag (let alone .22 lr) would be enough for defense. I'm still drooling over the Vaquero as well.

My vote, as well.

The Ruger Super Blackhawk, 4 5/8", .44 Mag, Stainless Steel.

While I respect .45 Colt, I prefer .44 Mag. In addition, I have never handled a Uberti that didn't break. (Seriously! I know I'm the exception, but I broke 3 of them, just by handling them in gun stores. Even the salesmen were perplexed, since they were watching me... and I did nothing wrong.)

The 4 5/8" barrel makes carrying it easier (if desired).

Hell I've never ran across a gun that was cheaper to shoot, only guns that I could shoot more.

If you get into a gunfight, not likely, with the average street criminal(s), they are not going to stand and shoot it out with you. Most will run when they see you have a gun, of any type. The rest will run if you shoot at them or especially if you actually shoot one or two of'm.
If you were to get into a gunfight with a Swat Team, Marine Recon, Army Special Forces or some other highly trained unit, they'd kill you.
I've never fired over 4 shots in a gunfight. 6 gunfights. 34 years as a Cop.

If I had to, I'd feel fairly safe with either my Old Model Vaquero or my Colt SAA. Both in .45 Colt.

That said, the .44Spec is right up their too... but the .45 Colt is still the king.
