.260 is a great round

I just got back from the range today with my Savage 10FP in .260 rem. With a max load of VV n550 it was driving 140 Amaxs to 2800 fps and running 3-shot groups from .26" to .45". Same thing for 142 Sierra MKs, but about 2760 fps.

Cases are easily formed from .243 Lapua brass. Just run them over a 6.5mm mandrel and trim.

All this with higher BC than .308 and 25% less recoil.

What's not to love?

Yo,
Good shooting!! I am wondering if this was bench-rested or from a postition? (Guessing bench-rested.) Yesterday I fired a 3 shot group from prone with my Remington 700 and ended up with a group that measured .850". Load was Federal Premium 140gr Sierras. My reloading equipment asn't arrived yet. Like you I absolutely LOVE my new rifle and cartridge combo. Still can't believe that the Remington is box-stock throwing factory ammo. Incredible!

P-990. Oh yeah, this was benchrested, rifle fired from bags, free recoil style (I don't touch anything except the trigger).

.850" is very good from prone with factory ammo.

Yeah, the 260 does everything I want a .308 to do with less powder and a lot less recoil.

To get that kind of accuracy (.3 moa for three), I use Lapua .243 brass necked up and trimmed to 2.026". Neck-sized with .291" Redding bushing. Benchrest primers.

Try 36-37 grains of Varget with Hornady Amax 140s. I started them close to the lands, but, in my rifle, they seem to like seating .020" away from lands. Good brass is important.

It also helps that I'm using an $800 Leupold LRT 8-25x.

Yo,
I plan on reloading my hunting ammo and praying that I will be allowed to come home from the Navy for Thanksgiving weekend. I will be using 140gr Sierra GK's and 125gr Nosler Partitions. (When my dad phoned in the order he called me after and said, "Jesus, they don't give those Noslers away, do they? I didn't realize that it was only a box of 50!") Yes, the .260 is great. At a "fun" 300yd shoot last night the pit-crew commented, "Wow, those .260s land with some authority. Some of those big rocks aren't so big anymore." Of course all of the other shooters had .223s.
To start with I am going to be trying RL19 in Remington cases. Just hoping I can figure out the procedure for neck-sizing only. Have only reloaded for semi-autos thusfar.
