I think it's a deal...

Well, this could be a terrible thing. A new gun store opened up about a quarter mile down the road from my house. I stopped by today and over in the corner, well away from the black rifles and plastic guns was an ASM "1851" conversion in .44 Colt.

The tag said $280 and they took $250, threw in half a box of Black Hills ammo and two and a half boxes of brass.

Seems like a good deal. Finally...finally I get to go shooting tomorrow!

You know, when I got home and showed my wife, she actually said that it was kind of pretty and didn't make a bit of a fuss.

I should have bought a lottery ticket while I was at it.d

Ha, Beagle, I don't think I wanted to push my luck that hard!

BTW, I'm going to load the empties up with black powder and a cast bullet. Does anybody know if the same 200 grain bullet for .44-40 will do the job in .44 Colt? Or should I cast .44 Special bullets?

As long as they're modern 44-40's. Original 44-40's were .427, modern ones are .429

Good find, HC.

Real nice find.

I do agree with you that it is a darned shame that SOB had to open up a gun shop a quarter mile from you!

Will the tribulations ever end?!

;o)

The only thing I ever see in the gun stores around here are Smiths and Glocks.

Well, to be fair, his main business is selling black rifles and Glocks, so I think that he was at a loss for what to do with 19th century tactical gear. He took it in on trade, so somehow I think that this was a circle of "what do we do with it?"

jib43, that's kind of the way things go around here, but every now and then, something nice pops up. We have a lively Internet classified site that isn't afraid to have a guns section, but it's closing down next month, so I guess that I'll have to do more leg work. Or less spending.
