front firing blank replicas

As soon as I come back from the sandbox I want to start participating
In simulation re-enactments. I have found front fire blank replicas online yet don't fully know the regulations involving them..if any. Am I allowed top own one without and paperwork..and I allowed to transport it via vehicle..and if so what regulations would keep me out of trouble as well as those with me..more than one friend of mine might travel with his blank replica and I'm nopt looking to get in trouble. I understand its not classified as a 'firearm' or live fire for that matter yet I'm sure stipulations are involved. Someone fill me in on everything I should know..or point me in the direction to obtain this information..I'm a resident of iowa.
